The specific role of PVC plasticizer

Plasticizers are indispensable in the processing of PVC products. As one of the indispensable processing aids for PVC products, what is its specific role? (1) Compatibility with PVC As the plasticizer of PVC, it must have good compatibility with PVC. Plasticizers with poor compatibility are prone to migration and precipitation from the surface of the product, which not only loses the plasticizing effect, but also affects the appearance of the product. 

(2). Plasticization temperature. The plasticization of soft PVC refers to the process of melting with PVC to form a uniform material. The plasticization temperature is related to the type of PVC resin, the type and amount of plasticizer, and other additives in the formulation. There are relationships. Generally speaking, a plasticizer with good compatibility and strong solvation ability has a lower plasticizing temperature.  

(3) Plasticization efficiency. Different types of plasticizers require different amounts to achieve the same hardness of PVC materials. Based on the amount of DOP, other types of plasticizers require relative hardness to achieve the same hardness. The amount is called the plasticizing efficiency of the plasticizer.  

(4) Durability. The durability of plasticizers includes volatility resistance, migration resistance, and extraction resistance. Generally speaking, the volatilization of the plasticizer is mainly determined by the molecular weight, and the migration is related to the compatibility of the plasticizer and PVC.  

(5) Other properties, plasticizer properties, including cold resistance, electrical insulation, flame retardancy, mold resistance, etc.
